Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie : Talks On Narration, Feminism, And Importance Of Truth In Post-Truth Age
Introduction : This blog is written as a part of the Thinking Activity assigned by Professor Dr Dilip Barad regarding Nigerian writer Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's talks on the Importance of Storrytelling and Importance of Truth in Post-Truth Era.
Talk on Feminism : We All Should be Feminist :
Talk on Importance of Truth in Post-Truth Era :
In this video, Adichie emphasizes the importance of narration. The narration is related with the hidden gain of the power-structure whereas the people who are literate and in power-position are the ones who narrate the story or write the literature and by conscious habit ir unconsciously overlook the voice of downtrodden people living along with them in the same age, sometimes the elites would try to give voice to the poor but fail to do so completely as the very emotions are subjective and can intrinsically be felt by the one who is suffering or enjoying the experience in one's life.
Talk on Feminism : We All Should be Feminist :
Feminism is the dire need even of the so-called modern and civilized society. In this talk the speaker narrates some of her saddening experiences of being a female in the patriarchal society of Nigeria where she grew up. She felt and thus she narrated with the power of literature which she emphasized in the talk as well.
Truth and fact are two impervious factors that are tragically seen to be suffering through the illogical reasonings of half-baked and uneducated or semi-educated people. The speaker tells to find the factual data and its authenticity through deep and vigorous research and reject all that do not conform to the research one enterprise to do.
Conclusion : In the talks that are discussed, one seemingly common factor in all the three talks we find is the stressing upon the truth and factual information rather than just relying on the narrations passed from generation to generation, especially by the uneducated, unreasonable, and logicless people of ages to ages. This quote from the American author Zora Neale Hurston is well-observed and contextually befitting one :
